The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the 250-bed capacity Reference Hospital in Okene, Kogi State, located in north central Nigeria, Professor Solomon Avidime, proudly announced that the hospital has successfully conducted over one hundred surgeries, facilitated over a hundred safe deliveries, and provided various other medical services within just four months of his assumption of duty.
During an end-of-year program held at the hospital premises, Professor Avidime expressed his gratitude to the staff for their hard work and commitment, which has contributed to the smooth operation of the facility.
He urged them to maintain this level of dedication in the coming year, assuring them that as the hospital expands its operations, more job opportunities will become available.
In an effort to enhance the quality of healthcare services, Professor Avidime revealed that the hospital aims to serve as a teaching hospital for medical students from the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) in Osara.
This collaboration will allow students to gain valuable clinical experience without having to travel far. The CMD expressed confidence that the availability of modern state-of-the-art facilities will greatly benefit their training.
Furthermore, Professor Avidime called upon the well-to-do individuals from Egbiraland to support the hospital by contributing to the payment of medical bills for those in dire need of assistance, adding that the support would enable the hospital to continue providing essential medical care to the less privileged.
The CMD expressed his appreciation to Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello for establishing the hospital and recruiting the necessary staff.
He assured the governor that the hospital will strive to justify the government’s significant investment in this medical facility.
In their respective goodwill messages, distinguished individuals such as Prof Abdulrahaman Asipita, the Vice Chancellor of Confluence University of Science and Technology Osara, and Ahmed Ozigi Tijjani, the member representing Okene/Ogori-Magongo at the House of Representatives, expressed their admiration for the CMD and his Management team for their remarkable achievements in a short period of time.
These esteemed individuals urged the hospital staff to continue providing unwavering support and cooperation to the CMD, emphasizing the importance of remaining dedicated to their duties in order to elevate the hospital to even greater heights.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the Award of Excellence to the CMD, recognizing his outstanding service to humanity.
It is worth noting that the hospital is among the many “legacy projects” initiated by the government of Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello. As the government prepares to transition leadership to Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the governor-elect, on January 27, 2024, the hospital stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to improving healthcare services for the people.
