The Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Engr Joseph Stephen, has issued a stern warning to residents who are undermining the government’s efforts towards waste management and disposal in the state.
He issued the warning during the inspection tour, clearing sites from Kpata to International market, Post Office to FMC Junction, Cinema Road, Zenith Bank Junction to Adankolo Junction, and Flyover Bridge to Secretariat Junction were visited by the Commissioner and his team.
Engr Joseph expressed his dissatisfaction at the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages and along road channels, emphasising the importance of proper waste disposal practices to protect the environment and public health.
“We cannot keep disposing waste indiscriminately,it harms the ecosystem and poses a serious risk to human health”
“The state Government has accorded priority to environmental protection and preservation hence we need to complement the effort of the Government in serving the state by imbibing proper waste disposal habits”, the Commissioner said.
Engr Joseph stressed that the government has made environmental protection a top priority and urged residents to take responsibility for the waste they generate. He called for an end to the sabotage of waste management initiatives and for individuals to adopt proper waste disposal habits.
The Commissioner commended the State Sanitation and Waste Management Board for their efforts in timely waste evacuation but urged them to do more to ensure a clean environment.
