Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State recently welcomed eight students from the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) Osara, who were rescued by security operatives in a dense forest in Kwara state over the weekend.
The students, who were reunited with their families after undergoing psychological evaluation, were received by Governor Ododo at the headquarters of the Nigerian Army in Abuja.
During a brief ceremony at the Nigerian Army Headquarters, Governor Ododo expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership in the fight against terrorism and violent crimes in Nigeria.
He commended the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Nigerian Army, Police, Department of State Services, Civil Defense, local vigilante service, and local hunters for their successful operation in rescuing the CUSTECH students.
Governor Ododo emphasized the importance of collaboration between state governments and security agencies to address insecurity in Nigeria.
He also praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State for his support in joint efforts to eliminate criminals from border communities between Kogi and Kwara states.
While expressing condolences to the families of two abducted students who lost their lives, Governor Ododo vowed to make Kogi State unsafe for criminals.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taureed Lagbaja, represented by Major General Emmanuel Emeka, highlighted the military’s role in the rescue operation as a sign of the Nigerian government’s commitment to combating crime.
