In continuation of the intensive cleaning exercise the Kogi State Government has taken steps to remove overflowing waste from communal areas. bins in major areas of the state.
Speaking during the sanitation inspection tour, the Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Engr.Joseph Oluwasegun Stephen expressed satisfaction that the Eye sore refuse heap situated at Phase one, Cinema road, Adankolo junction and 200 Housing unit posing significant health hazards to resident and motorist plying the road has recieved prompt attention.
He, however, disclosed that the Ministry will continue to identify and address the environmental challenges across the state, working tirelessly to make Kogi a cleaner and sustainable city while assuring residents of prompt Evacuation of the communal bins to abate waste nuisance in the state.
“We have identified major refuse dumping site in the state and have commenced efficient and effective Evacuation of the filled communal bins in the areas. The Evacuation will be a continuous Exercise as no part of Kogi State will be left unattended”
Speaking further, he said the refuse heap if neglected present several health hazards including potential disease outbreaks and pollution from decaying waste.
He frowned at the negative attitude of disposing refuse indiscriminately, urging residents to cooperate with the State Government in order to advert the implications of poor Environmental hygiene.
While commending the commissioner for His timely response towards sanitation and waste Management in the state, the Director of Sanitation said in less than a month in office, the commissioner under the administration of Governor Ahmed Ododo has recorded remarkable strides in environmental Management.
He disclosed that, the Ministry is working towards implementing further effective Sanitation and Environmental maintenance strategies in ensuring a clean and healthy environment.
The Director appealed to Resident to make use of the Evacuated bin and desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the road channels, drainages or around the bin.
