In an impressive display of talent and determination, female cricket athletes from Kogi State secured a remarkable silver medal at the 2024 North Central National Under-17 Cricket Championship held in Abuja.
This outstanding achievement has ignited a sense of pride and commitment within the new Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Monday A Anyebe, who pledged unwavering support towards the advancement of sports in the state.
In a meeting held on Wednesday, Hon. Monday Anyebe warmly received the triumphant athletes in his office. Expressing his delight at the news, the Commissioner emphasized the administration’s passion for elevating sports to new heights under the dynamic leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. Encouraging the athletes to continue their exemplary performance, he urged them to maintain their dedication and never waver in their pursuit of excellence.
Hon. Monday Anyebe assured the athletes that the Ministry would spare no effort in enhancing their performance by creating a conducive environment for their development.
Congratulating the athletes on their victory, the Commissioner promised to submit a comprehensive report to the government, highlighting the remarkable achievement of the Kogi State female cricket team.
Acknowledging the warm reception, Mr. Omolaiye Edisha, the Head Coach of the Kogi State Under Seventeen Cricket team, expressed his gratitude to the Commissioner for his support. He assured him that the athletes would remain dedicated to their cause and continue to strive for success.
Witnessing this momentous occasion were members of the management staff, including Mr. Obakachi Onipe, the State Director of Sports Council. Their presence added to the significance of this event, highlighting the collective commitment towards the advancement of sports in Kogi State.
