The Commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning, Hon. Asiwaju Idris has emphasized the significance of participatory governance as a crucial step towards promoting inclusivity and ensuring that the voices of the citizens are heard.

Hon. Idris stated this during the occasion of the Citizens’ Engagement on 2024 Budget Formulation in Lokoja.

In his opening remarks, Hon. Idris highlighted the commendable initiative to collectively shape the future trajectory of the state’s budget. He emphasized the importance of bringing together diverse voices and perspectives to enrich the budgeting process, recognizing the value of inclusivity and collaboration in driving impactful change within the state.

The Commissioner acknowledged the pivotal role of stakeholders in interrogating government policies/programs and providing valuable alternatives that address issues affecting the people. He attributed the successes recorded in the state to the input of stakeholders, shaping the services provided by the government for the citizens.

Hon. Idris assured stakeholders of the government’s readiness to work together in harvesting innovative ideas to stimulate production, curb wastage, and grow the state’s revenue, with a commitment to prioritizing the needs of the people. He also promised that the present administration is committed to tackling pressing issues such as rising inflation, unemployment, and poverty through strategic collaboration.

Furthermore, the Commissioner called on critical stakeholders to support the incoming administration, emphasizing the importance of continuity and collaboration for the success of the state.

During a presentation, the Chairperson of Kogi NGOs Network (Kongonet), Amb. Idris Muriana emphasized that Budget Transparency and Effective Stakeholder Engagement are the cornerstones of good governance, accountability, and sustainable development. He highlighted that fostering transparency and engagement can cultivate an environment of trust, inclusivity, and collaboration, ultimately leading to better outcomes for the people of the state.

Mr. Muriana underscored the importance of accountability, public trust, and effective resource management, stressing the active involvement of individuals, communities, CSOs, and other relevant stakeholders in the decision-making process related to public policies, programs, and budgets. This approach recognizes that those affected by decisions should have a voice in shaping them.
