Kogi state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has appointed Onogwu Mohammed as his new chief press secretary. This was made known in a statement sent to journalists by the secretary to the Kogi state government, Folashade Arike Ayoade, on Tuesday, January 8. According to the statement, the appointment takes immediate effect. Onogwu, a graduate of the University of Jos, was before his new appointment, the Editor-in-Chief of InsideStory, an online news medium.
Onogwu’s appointment comes barely 24 hours after Governor’s Bello former spokesperson, Petra Akinti Onyegbule, tendered her resignation on Monday, January 7. Onyegbule’s resignation might not be unconnected with her alleged closeness to Frank Shaibu, the senior special assistant on public communication to the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Recall that on Wednesday, December 5, an aide to Governor Bello on new media, Odaudu Joel, resigned his position. Joel in a letter to Governor Yahaya Bello, through the secretary to the state government said, he was compelled to tender his resignation following pressing family issues.
